Have you ever sit in a park or your yard and watched the birds up in the trees? They are very interesting to watch how the mother bird flies away and gathers straw, sticks, cotton balls, strings and anything else that she can find that will help her nest be soft for the eggs she will soon be laying.
Weeks may go by and you not even realize that she has laid the eggs or that their are baby bird's inside the nest. The mother bird may be out hunting for worms to feed her babies when all of a sudden one of the baby birds decide that he is tired of that little area. He decides he wants to see the world. He wobbles up onto his feet, walks to the edge of the nest. Then out of nowhere the song starts playing, "I believe I can fly." No, there is no music but he really does think that he's ready to try his wings.
Off he goes and down he goes. "Wow, this is much more difficult than I thought it would be." "Not only that, I'm cold, and away from mom's protection." Cold and confused he has to sit and wait for the mother bird to return to the nest.
Soon the mother bird returns to the nest to find one of her babies are gone. Panic almost sits in and then she hers the chirp in the distance. Off she goes to get her baby before a predator comes along and takes it away.
Do you ever remember being like this baby bird. Thinking you are ready to try your wings and ready to give it your all? There was no fear. You knew within yourself anything was possible.
We see this happen often in the ministry. Sometimes the Lord allows us to try our wings knowing that we are going to fall to the ground. He knows we are not grounded enough in the word of God but he also knows that when we stand up and try, that we are going to learn some valuable lessons. The chapter shown below is beautifully written and gives me great hope that when I try and fail that he is going to be there with me.
Does he say he will be with everyone that tries and fails? No, he will be with those that abide under the shadow of the Almighty. What a blessed place to dwell.
PSALM 91
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide
under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress:
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress:
my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,
and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings
shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night;
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night;
nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness;
nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand;
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand;
but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and
see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge,
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge,
even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee,
There shall no evil befall thee,
neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee,
For he shall give his angels charge over thee,
to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands,
They shall bear thee up in their hands,
lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion
and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him:
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him:
I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him:
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him:
I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
.
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
