NEARER MY GOD TO THEE

Therefore if any man be in Christ,
he is a new creature: old things
are passed away; behold,
all things are become new.
II Corinthians 5:17

 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own
understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge
him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Be not
wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD,
and depart from evil. It shall be health
to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Honour the LORD with thy substance,
and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
So shall thy barns be filled with plenty,
and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
My son, despise not the chastening
of the LORD; neither be weary of his
correction:  For whom the LORD loveth he
correcteth; even as a father the son in whom
he delighteth.  Happy is the man that findeth
wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
For the merchandise of it is better than the
merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof
than fine gold.  She is more precious than
rubies: and all the things thou canst
desire are not to be compared unto her.
Length of days is in her right hand;
and in her left hand riches and honour.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to them that lay hold
upon her: and happy is every one that
retaineth her.  The LORD by wisdom
hath founded the earth; by understanding
hath he established the heavens.  By his
knowledge the depths are broken up,
and the clouds drop down the dew.
My son, let not them depart from thine
eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace
to thy neck.  Then shalt thou walk in thy
way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid:
yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
Proverbs 3:5-24

WHOM WILL I BE EQUAL, SAITH THE HOLY ONE

To whom then will ye liken me,
or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes on high, and behold
who hath created these things, that
bringeth out their host by number:
he calleth them all by names by
the greatness of his might, for
that he is strong in power; not
one faileth.  Why sayest thou,
O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel,
My way is hid from the LORD,
and my judgment is passed over
from my God?  Hast thou not known?
hast thou not heard, that the everlasting
God, the LORD, the Creator of the
ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither
is weary? there is no searching of his
understanding.  He giveth power to the
faint; and to them that have no might
he increaseth strength.  Even the youths
shall faint and be weary, and the young
men shall utterly fall: But they that wait
upon the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary; and they
shall walk, and not faint.

ISAIAH 40:25-31

THE WORD OF OUR GOD SHALL STAND FOREVER

Photo provided by Chris Weibe

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth:
because the spirit of the LORD
bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth:
but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
O Zion, that bringest good tidings,
get thee up into the high mountain;
O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings,
lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up,
be not afraid; say unto the cities
of Judah, Behold your God!
Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong
hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold,
his reward is with him, and his work before him.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd:
he shall gather the lambs with his arm,
and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently
lead those that are with young.

GOD'S GREAT LOVE

Photo provided by Aaron Armstrong

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the
wilderness, even so must the Son of man
be lifted up:  That whosoever believeth in
him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his
only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to
condemn the world; but that the world
through him might be saved.

John 3:14-1

FINDING PERFECT PEACE

Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation
which keepeth the truth may enter in.
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.
Trust ye in the LORD for ever:
for in the LORD JEHOVAH
is everlasting strength:

THE LORD KNOWS WHAT WE NEED BEFORE WE ASK

Photo provided by Brian Bohannon

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men,
to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no
reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Therefore when thou doest thine alms,
do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the
hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets,
that they may have glory of men. Verily I say
unto you, They have their reward.
But when thou doest alms, let not thy
left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father
which seeth in secret himself shall reward
thee openly.  And when thou prayest, thou shalt not
be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray
standing in the synagogues and in the corners of
the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily
I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet,
and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy
Father which is in secret; and thy Father which
seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions,
as the heathen do: for they think that they
shall be heard for their much speaking.
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your
Father knoweth what things ye have need of,
before ye ask him.  After this manner therefore
pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive
our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Matthew 6:1-13

RIVERS OF LIVING WATER

Photo provided by Cricket White Green

Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while
am I with you, and then I go unto him
that sent me.  Ye shall seek me, and shall not
find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot
come. Then said the Jews among themselves,
Whither will he go, that we shall not find him?
will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles,
and teach the Gentiles?  What manner of
saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me,
and shall not find me: and where I am,
thither ye cannot come?  In the last day, that
great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried,
saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto
me, and drink.  He that believeth on me, as the
scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow
rivers of living water.

John 7:33-38

VENGEANCE IS MINE; I WILL REPAY, SAITH THE LORD

Photo provided by Chris Wiebe

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves,
but rather give place unto wrath:
for it is written, Vengeance is mine;
I will repay, saith the Lord.
Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed
him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so
doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on
his head. Be not overcome of evil,
but overcome evil with good.

THE GLORY OF THE LORD IS RISEN UPON THEE

Photo provided by Lisa Long

Arise, shine; for thy light is come,
and the glory of the LORD is risen upon
thee.  For, behold, the darkness shall cover
the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the
LORD shall \arise upon thee, and his glory shall
be seen upon thee.  And the Gentiles shall come
to thy light, and kings to the brightness
of thy rising.  Lift up thine eyes round about,
and see: all they gather themselves together,
they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far,
and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.
Then thou shalt see, and flow together,
and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged;
because the abundance of the sea shall be converted
unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.

LET THE WORDS OF MY MOUTH BE ACCEPTABLE IN THY SIGHT

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever:
the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous
altogether.  More to be desired are they than gold,
yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey
and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy
servant warned: and in keeping of them there
is great reward. Who can understand his errors?
cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy
servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not
have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I
shall be innocent from the great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of
my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD,
my strength, and my redeemer.

Psalm 19:9-14

THOU ART EXALTED AS HEAD ABOVE ALL

Photo provided by Lisa Long

Wherefore David blessed the LORD before
all the congregation: and David said,
Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our
father, for ever and ever. Thine, O LORD,
is the greatness, and the power, and the
glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for
all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine;
thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art
exalted as head above all.  Both riches and
honour come of thee, and thou reignest over
all; and in thine hand is power and might; and
in thine hand it is to make great, and to
give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God,
we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.

STIR UP THE GIFT OF GOD

When I call to remembrance the unfeigned
faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in
thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice;
and I am persuaded that in thee also.
Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou
stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by
the putting on of my hands.  For God hath not
given us the spirit of fear; but of power,
and of love, and of a sound mind.  Be not thou
therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord,
nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of
the afflictions of the gospel according to the
power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us
with an holy calling, not according to our works,
but according to his own purpose and grace,
which was given us in Christ Jesus before
the world began,

THE GRASS WITHERED, THE FLOWER FADETH

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people,
saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem,
and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished,
that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath
received of the LORD’S hand double for
all her sins. The voice of him that crieth in
the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be exalted, and every
mountain and hill shall be made low: and the
crooked shall be made straight, and the
rough places plain: And the glory of the LORD
shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together:
for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry?
All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof
is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth,
the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD
bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth:
but the word of our God shall stand
for ever.  O Zion, that bringest good tidings,
get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem,
that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with
strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the
cities of Judah, Behold your God!
Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong
hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold,
his reward is with him, and his work before him.

WHAT FRUIT DOES YOUR LIFE PORTRAY

 Photo Provided by Mary Neufeld

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such
there is no law.  And they that are
Christ’s have crucified the flesh
with the affections and lusts. If we
live in the Spirit, let us also walk
in the Spirit.  Let us not be
desirous of vain glory, provoking
one another, envying one another.

KEYS TO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

Photo by Joy Rene Williams Taylor

When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea
Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom
do men say that I the Son of man am?
And they said, Some say that thou art John
the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias,
or one of the prophets.  He saith unto them,
But whom say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said,
Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed
art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath
not revealed it unto thee, but my Father
which is in heaven.  And I say also unto thee, That
thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build
my church; and the gates of hell shall not
prevail against it.  And I will give unto thee the keys
of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever
thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Matthew 16: 13-19

FROM EVERLASTING TO EVERLASTING

Photo provided by Russell Tippin

Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all
generations.  Before the mountains were brought
forth, for ever thou hadst formed the earth and
the world, even from everlasting to everlasting,
thou art God.  Thou turnest man to destruction;
and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
For a thousand years in thy sight are but as
yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the
night.  Thou carriest them away as with a flood;
they are as a sleep: in the morning they
are like grass which groweth up.
In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up;
in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
For we are consumed by thine anger,
and by thy wrath are we troubled.
Thou hast set our iniquities before thee,
our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
For all our days are passed away in thy wrath:
we spend our years as a tale that is told.
The days of our years are threescore years and ten;
and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years,
yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is
soon cut off, and we fly away.
Who knoweth the power of thine anger?
even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.
So teach us to number our days, that we
may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent
thee concerning thy servants.
O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we
may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Make us glad according to the days wherein thou
hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have
seen evil.  Let thy work appear unto thy servants,
and thy glory unto their children.
And let the beauty of the LORD our God
be upon us: and establish thou the work of our
hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands
establish thou it.

Psalm 90

TIME WELL SPENT

On Friday nights my two fabulous grand kids
come stay the night at my house. We
have this little ritual that we do.  When I put
each of them into their bed, I kneel beside it and I
make up a story to tell them.  Then it's their time and
they can't tell a story from a book, they also
have to make up a story.  We have many
silly moments of laughter because some of
our stories can get pretty funny as my
imagination and theirs gets pretty wild
at times.

After we finished our ritual last night, it was
time to pray and my grand-daughter began to
talk about God.  She said,"I don't know that I
really know very much about God."  She
had tried to tell a friend once about God
and said it was hard to explain to someone
who had never heard about God, to understand.
I explained to her that it's hard for even us adults
to understand all we need to know about God.

As we talked she said, "I just don't understand
how he can make the stars and sky, the water, and
the trees and everything that he made.  I tried to
explain how he just spoke the words and they were
there.  She said, that's really hard to understand.  As
I knelt there with her a bit I thought I needed to come up
with something she can see with her eyes enough to
let her little mind latch onto the awesome power of God
and then we can move on and start building off that.

I told her to take an invisible canvas into her hands
We reached picked up the canvas, then the brush,  We
together painted an awesome picture and we stopped
and told each other what all we had painted onto
the canvas and we both realized, it's just an
invisible canvas of things we painted.  Then I said,
"here is what happens when God picks up an
invisible canvas."  He paints the stars and they
jump off the canvas and come alive.  He paints the
moon and it jumps off the canvas and comes alive
and he keeps painting trees, fish, birds and even people
and every time he paints something it jumps off the canvas
and comes alive because of the great great power of this
Almighty God, things just come alive.  Her little eyes got
so big and she sat up in the bed and said, "MeeMee! God
has to have a lot, a lot, a lot of power to make a drawing
coming to life.  He can't just be a person like you and me,
he has to have a whole lot of power.

Wow, the magic moment when the truth of the power of
the Almighty God hits the understanding of a child.  Makes
me realize that I so much more need to trust in the power
of this Almighty God because he didn't stop 2000 years ago
after he created the universe.  This same power is alive
and still creating and moving today and we so
underestimate it.

After our canvas discussion I was able to go a step further
and explain that our God didn't really use a canvas and
a brush but that he just breathed out the words and
everything began to be created.  She once again said,
wow that's just a whole lot of power.  She is
correct, our God has a whole lot, a lot, a lot
of power.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void;
and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face
of the waters.  And God said, Let there be light:
and there was light.  And God saw the light,
that it was good: and God divided the light from
the darkness.  And God called the light Day, and the darkness
he called Night. And the evening and the morning
were the first day.

Genesis 1: 1-5
The whole creation story is told in Genesis chapter one and two.

BRING YE ALL THE TITHES INTO THE STOREHOUSE

Photo provided by Lindsey Barnes

Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall
prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom
ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even
the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight
in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD
of hosts.  But who may abide the day of his
coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth?
for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:
And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of
silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and
purge them as gold and silver, that they may
offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem
be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old,
and as in former years. and I will come near to
you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness
against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers,
and against false swearers, and against those that
oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow,
and the fatherless, and that turn aside the
stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith
the LORD of hosts.  For I am the LORD,
I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob
are not consumed.  Even from the days of your
fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances,
and have not kept them. Return unto me,
and I will return unto you, saith the LORD
of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me.
But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes
and offerings.  Ye are cursed with a curse:
for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that
there may be meat in mine house, and prove
me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts,
if I will not open you the windows of heaven,
and pour you out a blessing, that there shall
not be room enough to receive it.

Malachi 3: 1-10

HE GATHERETH THE WATERS

Photo provided by Joanna Pack

Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous:
for praise is comely for the upright.
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him
with the psaltery and an instrument of ten
strings.  Sing unto him a new song;
play skilfully with a loud noise.
For the word of the LORD is right;
and all his works are done in truth.
He loveth righteousness and judgment:
the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.
By the word of the LORD were the heavens
made; and all the host of them by the
breath of his mouth.  He gathereth the waters of the
sea together as an heap: he layeth up the
depth in storehouses.  Let all the earth fear the LORD:
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
For he spake, and it was done; he commanded,
and it stood fast.

Psalm 33:1-7

I APPOINTED THE THINGS TO COME

Photo provided by Chris Weibe

For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty,
and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit
upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
And they shall spring up as among the grass,
as willows by the water courses.
One shall say, I am the LORD’S; and another shall
call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall
subscribe with his hand unto the LORD,
and surname himself by the name of Israel.
Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel,
and his redeemer the LORD of hosts;
I am the first, and I am the last;
and beside me there is no God.
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it,
and set it in order for me, since I appointed the
ancient people? and the things that are coming,
and shall come, let them shew unto them.
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told
thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even
my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea,
there is no God; I know not any.

Isaiah 44:3-7

LORD WILL COMMAND HIS LOVINGKINDNESS

Photo provided by Pam Kaufman

As the hart panteth after the water brooks,
so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God:
when shall I come and appear before God?
My tears have been my meat day and night,
while they continually say unto me, Where is thy
God?  When I remember these things, I pour out
my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude,
I went with them to the house of God, with the voice
of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why
art thou disquieted in me?  hope thou in God:
for I shall yet praise him for the help of his
countenance. O my God, my soul is cast down
within me: therefore will I remember thee from
the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the
hill Mizar.Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of
thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are
gone over me. Yet the LORD will command his
lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his
song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God
of my life. I will say unto God my rock, Why
hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because
of the oppression of the enemy? As with a sword in my
bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily
unto me, Where is thy God? Why art thou cast down,
O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?
hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him,
who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Psalm 42

DIGGING A WELL BOOKS AND DEVOTIONAL GUIDE

Sometimes I get so caught up in giving away the books
that I fail to tell people that we have the guides
and the journal that goes with it.

I have taught one of these studies with Graceland Life
Group at our church but other than that I have never
taught the Digging a Well as a series so I personally
can't tell you how well the studies will go except for the
one we did was a good for myself and I feel there
were people in the class that gleaned information
from it.

THE JUST MAN WALKETH IN HIS INTEGRITY

Photo provided by Rita Montgomery

My son, if thou wilt receive my words,
and hide my commandments with thee;
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom,
and apply thine heart to understanding;
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge,
and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
If thou seekest her as silver,
and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
Then shalt thou understand the fear
of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his
mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous:
he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
He keepeth the paths of judgment,
and preserveth the way of his saints.
Then shalt thou understand righteousness,
and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
When wisdom entereth into thine heart,
and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
Discretion shall preserve thee,
understanding shall keep thee:
To deliver thee from the way of the evil man,
from the man that speaketh froward things;
Who leave the paths of uprightness,
to walk in the ways of darkness;
Who rejoice to do evil, and delight
in the frowardness of the wicked;
Whose ways are crooked,
and they froward in their paths:
To deliver thee from the strange woman, even
from the stranger which flattereth with
her words; Which forsaketh the guide of
her youth, and forgetteth the covenant
of her God. For her house inclineth unto
death, and her paths unto the dead.
None that go unto her return again,
neither take they hold of the paths of life.
That thou mayest walk in the way of good men,
and keep the paths of the righteous.
For the upright shall dwell in the land,
and the perfect shall remain in it.
But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth,
and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

Proverbs 2

RIPPLE EFFECT

Have you ever watched the ripples in the water?
Each move we make starts a ripple effect.
The ripple effect we have in someones life can
be good or it can be bad.  That ripple that is
created can motivate them to move forward with
their service to God or it can cause them to
loose hope.

Once again I ponder on the life of Dale Dozier who
seemed to never waste one opportunity to share
Jesus Christ with others.  He would always have
a track he wrote in his pocket and share with others
what his Jesus meant to him.  He didn't share what
Christ meant to Billy Graham.  He didn't tell what
had happened in Louie Giglio's life.  He shared
what was going on in his own life.  He wanted
his life to have a ripple effect on the people
he knew; and I am here to tell you that it did.

There were times that Dale said that things were
not going so well.  There were times he would
get upset about the decisions people made
with their lives, and there were times his
heart was broken and heavy for things going
on in and around him.  He was true to himself
and he was true to His God.

Once we served together in the same church
when a young man came in view of a call
and he was far from being a pastor and I
watched emotion after emotion run through
Dale.  We began to pray that God would
take control of the situation as it looked
as if they would call this man to be the
pastor and we felt the outcome could
be one of great turmoil.  As things turned
out there was one vote that kept the young
man from serving as the pastor.  Another
young man come in view of a call and he
was a leader and you could tell he was a true
man of God.  They called him to the church
with I believe 100% vote and he has been
there for ten years and the church
has been healthy.  Was Dale wrong for being
angry or upset?  No, because he had a
protective spirit for the whole flock
and he could see some would be wounded.
Because of his honesty and truth about life it
caused ripple effects in other people's lives.

I must stop and tell a funny story about
something he once told me in the ministry.
He had a lady in the church that her husband
was coming home drunk and beating her up.
She became so angry and tired of it that one
night he came in and she was ready.  He began
to beat on her and she pulled a gun and shot
him in the hip.  This changed the man.  He began
to treat this woman with more respect for about
ten years and after about ten years he began to
do the same thing.  She went to Dale with this
situation for advise.  He said, "well seems like a
bullet in the hip worked so well the first time,
and you know the man does have two hips."
Even things like this in Dale's life helped me
to see that we are all human and sometimes
we humans can be selfish, ungodly and flat
out ridiculous at times and sometimes
it takes drastic measures for us to get
shaken back into reality.

I have had many struggles lately myself
and I begin to tell myself that I am not
worthy to be digging a well for people
to drink from because my attitude hasn't
been correct lately.  But then I am reminded
that even along the way in Abraham's life
as he dug wells that there were people
that would rise up against him and try to
take his well that he dug away from
him.  There were people that came
along and destroyed some of the wells
that he dug.  There were many obstacles
that he faced while digging the wells and
if he came up against an obstacle to big
or couldn't conquer the foe that was trying
to rob him of that well, he would just
move along and dig a new well.  As people
traveled all throughout the land they found
water to drink because Abraham never stopped
digging wells.

When we are challenged with an obstacle we tend
to just throw in the towel and give up.  How very
foolish that would be.  So as Dale often reminded
me that it will be a fight to the very last round, keep
digging wells because someone somewhere is
thirsty and needs refreshed.   Dale Dozier prayed
for Steve and I every night before he went to sleep
and sometimes I wonder how many other people
do the same thing and they are the very reason
we are able to keep making ripples in the water
of these tiny wells springing up.

For Dale who dug many wells I pray there will be
people who go behind him and do as Isaac did
and dig those wells again that were taken away
by the enemy or covered up.  There are some
wells in those past churches he preached at
and there are some wells in his family.  There
are some wells in friends lives that the enemy
came along and plugged that we pray
can be opened back up and flowing because
of the way this man lived his life.

And Isaac digged again the wells of water,
which they had digged in the days of Abraham
his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after
the death of Abraham: and he called their names
after the names by which his father had called them.
And Isaac’s servants digged in the valley,
and found there a well of springing water.
And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s
herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he
called the name of the well Esek; because they
strove with him.  And they digged another well,
and strove for that also: and he called the
name of it Sitnah.  And he removed from thence,
and digged another well; and for that they
strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth;
and he said, For now the LORD hath made room
for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
And he went up from thence to Beersheba.
And the LORD appeared unto him the same night,
and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not,
for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply
thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.
And he builded an altar there, and called upon the
name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there:
and there Isaac’s servants digged a well.

GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT

Photo provide by Mark Booth

Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds,
and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain
is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
For we brought nothing into this world, and
it is certain we can carry nothing out.
And having food and raiment let
us be therewith content.  But they
that will be rich fall into temptation
and a snare, and into many foolish
and hurtful lusts, which drown men
in destruction and perdition.  For the
love of money is the root of all evil:
which while some coveted after,
they have erred from he faith,
and pierced themselves through
with many sorrows.  But thou, O
 man of God, flee these things;
and follow after righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience,
meekness.  Fight the good fight
of faith, lay hold on eternal life,
whereunto thou art also called,
and hast professed a good profession
before many witnesses.

I Timothy 6:5-12

I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH , NOW DO YOU LIKEWISE

Photo provided by Chris Wiebe

Today a dear friend of ours passed away.
Dale Dozier came into my families life
in Andrews Texas where he took a church
that was nearly dead and brought it to life.
That little church began to grow and has
steadily just kept growing.  While he was
pastor the walls of the building began to pull
away and it looked as if the building would
fall apart. He talked with my father who was
a carpenter and they agreed to add
three crosses to the front of the sanctuary
and to run huge beams out to the other side of
the building.  Not only did this hold the walls
in place but it is a constant reminder to me
that it is truly the cross of Jesus Christ that
holds the church together. There are
many sweet memories of fellowship and
love for my family at that church where
Dale and June gave of themselves that we
might see Christ exemplified in their lives.

Dale was a man that preached the word
and gave hope to people who needed it.
He encouraged people to use their God
given talents and would find a place
within the body of Christ to place
them where they could grow and mature.
As I was thinking about him passing
from this life into heaven today I could
only think he would leave these
words for us in the scripture below
found in II Timothy.

Before he passed away he was unresponsive
for a few days, didn't open his eyes or
communicate with anyone. A moment
before he passed from this life, he sat up
in his bed, fixed his eyes toward heaven,
stretched out both arms toward heaven,
laid back down on the bed and took his
last breath.  Dale knew where he was
going and he was ready to walk onto
the streets to meet his Savior.

I charge thee therefore before God,
and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge
the quick and the dead at his appearing and
his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in
season, out of season; reprove, rebuke,
exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
For the time will come when they will not
endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts
shall they heap to themselves teachers, having
itching ears;  And they shall turn away their ears
from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions,
do the work of an evangelist, make full
proof of thy ministry.  For I am now ready to
be offered, and the time of my departure is
at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have
finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown
of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous
judge, shall give me at that day: and not to
me only, but unto all them also that love
his appearing.

II Timothy 4:1-8
