I WILL NEVER LEAVE THEE

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not,
nor be afraid of them:
for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee;
he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto
him in the sight of all Israel,
Be strong and of a good courage:
for thou must go with this people unto the land
which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them;
and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.
And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee;
he will be with thee, he will not fail thee,
neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
Deuteronomy 31:6-8

DO JUSTLY, LOVE MERCY, WALK HUMBLY WITH THY GOD

He hath shewed thee, O man,
what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee,
but to do justly, and to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with thy God?

I WILL BE WITH YOU

But now thus saith the LORD that created thee,
O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel,
Fear not: for I have redeemed thee,
I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
When thou passest through the waters,
I will be with thee;
and through the rivers,
they shall not overflow thee:
when thou walkest through the fire,
thou shalt not be burned;
neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
For I am the LORD thy God,
the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour:
I gave Egypt for thy ransom,
Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
Since thou wast precious in my sight,
thou hast been honourable,
and I have loved thee:
therefore will I give men for thee,
and people for thy life.
Fear not: for I am with thee:
 I will bring thy seed from the east,
and gather thee from the west;
I will say to the north, Give up;
and to the south,
Keep not back: bring my sons from far,
and my daughters from the ends of the earth;
Even every one that is called by my name:
for I have created him for my glory,
I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
Isaiah 43:1-7

THINE HAND IS POWER AND MIGHT

Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power,
and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty:
for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine;
 thine is the kingdom, O LORD,
and thou art exalted as head above all.
Both riches and honour come of thee,
and thou reignest over all;
and in thine hand is power and might;
and in thine hand it is to make great,
and to give strength unto all.
Now therefore, our God, we thank thee,
and praise thy glorious name.

HIS MERCIES ARE NEW EVERY MORNING

It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed,
because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning:
 great is thy faithfulness.
The LORD is my portion, saith my soul;
therefore will I hope in him.
The LORD is good unto them that wait for him,
to the soul that seeketh him.
Lamentations 3:22-25

WHEN HEALING COMES

Bless the LORD, O my soul:
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name.
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities;
who healeth all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction;
who crowneth thee with lovingkindness
and tender mercies;
Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things;
so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The LORD executeth righteousness and
judgment for all that are oppressed.
Psalm 103:1-6

HE CARES

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about
with so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset us,
and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;
who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
For consider him that endured such
contradiction of sinners against himself,
est ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Hebrews 12:1-4

BLESSED ARE THEY THAT MOURN

And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:  And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.  Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  Matthew 5:1-16

RUNNING THE RACE

In Memory of Levis Awbrey

     This morning we got the tragic news that our dear friend Levis Awbrey had gone to be with the Lord.  My first thought was concern for all the children and youth that his life has touched.  How would they respond to the news?   How will this affect their lives?

     Immediately my mind began to think back over the last few years of Levis' life.  Levis has spent endless hours coaching sports for the little leagues in Kermit.  Levis is also one of the workers mentioned in Digging a Well book in the story about Miracle on Mulberry Street.  He gave of his time and energy so willingly, serving at the church on Wednesday and helping the kids where needed.

     Levis was also not just running the race for himself but he was running on a team.  Andy Williamson and Levis ran the race together.  Whenever Andy needed his team player to take the baton and run awhile, Levis gladly did so, showing the community what true friendship is all about.  Levis ran the race and finished with a prize.  He was surely meet at the gates of heaven with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant,"

May we all remember the value of running a good race.

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great
a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us
run with patience the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;
who for the joy that was set before him
endured the cross, despising the shame,
and is set down at the right
hand of the throne of God.

PURIFY MY HEART

 Photo provided by Patrica Ziegler

Have mercy upon me, O God,
according to thy lovingkindness:
according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me throughly from mine iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions:
and my sin is ever before me.
Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,
and done this evil in thy sight:
that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest,
and be clear when thou judgest.
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity;
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts:
and in the hidden part thou shalt
make me to know wisdom.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Make me to hear joy and gladness;
that the bones which thou hast
broken may rejoice.
Hide thy face from my sins, a
nd blot out all mine iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God;
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence;
and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;
and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Then will I teach transgressors thy ways;
and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Psalm 51:7

GOD IS THE STRENGTH OF MY HEART

Whom have I in heaven but thee?
and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
My flesh and my heart faileth:
but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish:
thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
But it is good for me to draw near to God:
I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
Psalm 73:25-28

GRACE FLOWS DOWN

For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners,
so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound.
But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
That as sin hath reigned unto death,
even so might grace reign through righteousness
unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
ROMANS 5:19-21

GRACE IN TIME OF NEED

For the word of God is quick, and powerful,
and sharper than any twoedged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,
and of the joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight:
but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes
of him with whom we have to do.
Seeing then that we have a great high priest,
that is passed into the heavens,
Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
For we have not an high priest
which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;
but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace,
that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
HEBREWS 4:12-16

CASTING ALL YOUR CARES ON HIM

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty
hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil,
as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions
are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal
glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while,
make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

CHANGE MY HEART O GOD

Create in me a clean heart,
O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence;
and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;
and uphold me with thy free spirit.
