Today we received word that a dear friend of
ours had passed from this life into eternity.
Eternity, now that is a long, long time!
For Tom McCollister eternity will be spent with
the one he loved so very dearly, the Lord Jesus
Christ. For Tom eternity will be spent rejoicing
around the throne of God. For Tom eternity will
be the place he receives many crowns as he was
a man that not only loved his family but he loved
people and if you were one of those who had to
opportunity to know Tom well; you could see he
loved deeply. A man never spending his time on
himself but pouring himself into projects for
those around him to show his kindness and
compassion for them.
Tom loved laughing and cutting up with people.
He was constantly telling a joke or trying to jump
out and scare someone.
One day Tom had come to our house to visit and
stepped outside. I got down on the floor and when
he came back into the house I crawled real fast
out from behind the door and started barking
like an angry dog.
I will never forget that moment because he had
scared me so many times so badly but today was
my turn.
Steve and I laugh each time we tell
this story as Tom nearly jumped through
the roof of the house.
To everything there is a season and yesterday
was the season for his new journey to begin
in glory.
He not only ran the race but he ran it very well.
He has passed the baton to many others to run
the race of Jesus Christ. Some will accept
the baton and some will drop it, but for
Tom he will wear the crown and some day
we will meet again on the streets of that
great city where death will not be able
to take our friends and loved ones
from us ever again.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to
every purpose under the heaven: A time to be
born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a
time to pluck up that which is planted; A time
to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down,
and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a
time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to
dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to
gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a
time to refrain from embracing; A time to get,
and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to
cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a
time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time
to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a
time of peace. What profit hath he that worketh
in that wherein he laboureth? I have seen the
travail, which God hath given to the sons of men
to be exercised in it. He hath made every thing
beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world
in their heart, so that no man can find out the
work that God maketh from the beginning
to the end.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-10
