Today I heard a man share how he knew he had something wrong with himself but he didn't know what to do about it.
The way he knew this is, he never felt guilt or remorse even though he was doing some really bad things. He had heard about conviction but had never experienced it, and that one thing was concerning to him as he had been around Christians for may years and could plainly see they were convicted.
This got to bothering him so bad that one day, he said the told God. "If you are God then the next time I go to do this evil thing that I should have convictions about; then you stop me!"
Never thought about it again until he was right at the point of jumping into the sin. He said the conviction was not there and never stopped to think this was wrong but suddenly he received a phone call from his wife the moment he moved toward committing the sin and he broke down and started weeping as she had called to stop him.
From that point on his heart has softened and he can feel the convicting power of God upon his life and this brings such joy to his heart that it causes him to weep often as he realizes there is a God and he can answer that prayer and bring the hardest heart a full circle around to softened and one who hears God.
This reminds me of a song that Steve and I used to sing that speaks volumes.
Lyrics:
Down through the years I heard the voice of the Savior,
I felt ill for turning it aside.
Then one day the voice stopped calling
A hardened heart had taken over my life.
Hardened hearts broken promises
Just to hear the Saviors voice is my prayer
Hardened heart lonely feeling
Don't wait my friend the voice gets harder to hear.
Each one of you know that old feeling
Remember how you tried to turn it aside
Then one day the voice stopped calling
A hardened heart had taken over my life.
Hardened hearts broken promises
Just to hear the Saviors voice is my prayer
Hardened heart lonely feeling
Don't wait my friend the voice gets harder to hear.
Don't wait my friend the voice gets harder to hear!
Don't pass up the eternal treasures for a few years of earthly pleasures!
Ask the Lord to soften your heart today.
Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
Ezekiel 36:25-27
